Still a bit shy on the nose, this is quite a sophisticated and elegant pinot grigio, ideal for a fine dining situation. Lovely texture and delicate, melon character, the finish long and silky.

"All your notions of commercial Pinot Grigio are forever changed once you try a quality expression like this from Alto Adige in Northern Italy. The 2017 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Soll offers tension and spicy energy in the mouth with citrus oil, candied grapefruit and poached pear at the back. This vintage threw a lot of challenges at winemakers, but this grape maintains its varietal purity nonetheless. Drink this wine within the next 24 months. Some 25,000 bottles were produced." The nose is rather subdued but the ripe, full-bodied palate offers mature pear, apple and peach. Oak-driven spice, including vanilla and butterscotch provide backup before a bitter almond close.
