From Piemonte comes our Barbera d'Alba, made by our longtime partners who are known for their incredibly quality, to Friuli for top-notch Pinot Grigio, Prosecco or Pinot Grigio Rosato, to Tuscany for our Super Tuscan blend called Ardente, or the up and coming yet historic Island of Sicily, where our partner producers delicious wines form exciting alternative grapes such as Inzolia and Nero d'avila, Ca del Sarto brings you amazingly consistent quality at a fair price.
The wines for our Barbera our grown in Piedmont, where the winemaking tradition goes back to the Middle Ages. Most of the region’s wine comes from small vineyards in which the growers also make the wine. In Barolo and Barbaresco, the region’s most revered winemaking areas, the average vineyard is only about five acres.
Our Pinot Grigio and Prosecco are both sourced from vineyards in Friuli, in the far northeast corner of Italy. Courtesy of the mountainous topography, the vines bask in bright sunshine without overheating, allowing the grapes to develop full phenolic ripeness and aromatic depth before their sugar levels peak.
The grapes for our Super Tuscan come from Fattoria Rodano in the Chianti Classico Zone and specifically in Castelina in Chianti. Rodano is quite a large estate, with more than a hundred hectares under vine. The heart and soul of their vineyard holdings is the beautifully situated vineyard of Viacosta, which is a perfect, south-facing bowl of old vines that average between 35 and 45 years of age. In top vintages, the Rodáno Riserva Chianti bottling is made from the Viacosta vineyard. In addition to Sangiovese, the Viacosta vineyard also has a small parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon planted here, which is used in the estate’s IGT bottling, called Mon Nene, named after Enrico's daughter. Rodano used to make a blend of Sangiovese with Cabernet called Monna Claudia, but currently just produce the Mon Nene with those Cabernet vines.
